Maddening OS X Keychain Issue

January 30th, 2007

I’ve been trying to solve this one for months, so if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

When my MacBook Pro is idle for a few minutes, it generally pops up between one and three keychain dialogs that request me to unlock my keychain for various applications (usually DotMacTranslator and Safari but sometimes others). This is frustrating. I’ve tried “repairing” my keychains and making sure they’re all available on login, but to no avail.

This doesn’t happen on my other Macs (a G5 and a Mini). I do use .Mac to synch my keychains, which I assume is relevant. Googling for DotMacTranslator doesn’t (or at least hasn’t in the past) get me anywhere useful.

It’s annoying because it even happens during DVD playback, causing DVD player to jump out of full-screen mode. Irritating.

Help.

Try trashing your login keychain. (As suggested by this thread.)

I’ve never had a problem with keychain corruption myself but I found this, (forgive me if you already saw this url). http://www.ehmac.ca/archive/index.php/t-40028.html

    it’s steve’s fault.

This is an issue with your login (system) password and keychain password not synchronizing.

I’ve fixed this before by “changing” my password. AppleMenu ->System Prefs ->Accounts->Change Passwd button. Enter your existing password, and twice again (as your “new” password).

I also set up a separate account on my machine for playing DVD’s (different battery/screensaver settings, etc). Good Luck! :)
