I Have to Sell My Car…But I Don't Want to

The Back, Back Road going East in Oregon

It makes sense, financially, logistically. We don’t need two cars.

I drive maybe once a week. At best. My car isn’t paid off (though I didn’t buy it new), so the chunk of change it generates is not feasible with my current uproarious pay situation (new company). So. My beloved Audi TT has to go.

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE THIS CAR? It’s in creepily impeccable condition. It’s been loved every inch of its existence. Where to even start.

I’ll miss the everything. The chip. The turbo. The custom exhaust. The custom grill. The really nice stereo system, with sub in the trunk. The four-thousand-dollar wheels and comparatively expensive tires (not a choice I would have made, personally, but hey). I feel like this is going to be my last internal-combustion vehicle. Manual transmissions are getting hard to find. It’s a beautiful automobile. And just so, so hard to let go of.

A moment of silence.

    word.

personally i have such a big crush on my car i cannot shut up about it.

klaus is, however, very practical and necessary what with my RETARDED commute.

when i gave up the last car i loved in that totally particular way it felt somehow like i was surrendering an essential piece of my cultural identity and freedom. and that was a 1980 Datsun station wagon for chrissake.

    my profound condolences.

That is some kind-a sexy car. You have another car? Who is ‘we’?
I gave up my last car, a 74 VW bus, about 5 years ago. I bike everywhere. Some things you notice after a year of getting around on bike:
    the sky
    the moon
a feel for each neighborhood in pdx because you’ve biked through them at 12MPH on a moon-lit night and at 18MPH on a sunny day.
the smell of car exhaust (the driver never smells his/her own exhaust).

sometimes i do wish i had a car to go to the beach with on a whim. zipcar (formerly flexcar) is good for the occasional errand but not for an overnight trip.

you’re right, you don’t need two cars.

….you need THREE cars! One to keep the TT company during the day when they’re just sitting there. (Works for the BMWs)
