Site Theme: Cycles

{ Life }

January 15, 2010

As mentioned in my post on phenology, I’ve been considering cycles lately. Seasons. Rotations. Circles. Calendars. Orbits. In the next while, perhaps a month or so, I’ll be highlighting content that carries this theme.

Please let me know if you have an idea for a post topic that falls in this theme: something interesting, curious, perplexing related to cycles.

    It might be interesting to explore tree rings, and the causes for different widths and what that can tell about those seasons in the past.

    There was a Radiolab or This American Life episode that touched on this a bit. Scientists were able to take a sample of a 1200 year old tree or something and they could look at the density and/or alignment of the cells to determine what was going on. When great fires were, dry seasons, etc.
