Today in the New York Times: Me

Complaining Bloggers Have a Cable Company’s Ear - NYTimes.com: “”

Lyza Gardner, a vice president at a Web development company in Portland, Ore., used Twitter to vent about a $183 cable bill last month. (The bill was prorated for almost two months of service.) Her comment — “very angry at Comcast” — set off Mr. Eliason’s search tool, prompting him to type out his typical reply: “Can I help?” The response caught Ms. Gardner off guard.

“It’s one thing to spit vitriol about a company when they can’t hear you,” she said in an interview. It’s another, she said, when the company replies. “I immediately backed down and softened my tone when I knew I was talking to a real person.”

I have effectively waited all my life to be called Ms. Gardner by the New York Times.

First words in the OED, now you’re “Ms. Gardner” to the NYT.

The word “distinguished” comes to mind.

  4. Richard Says:

I read that story in the Times; I read it every morning and saw your name. How does it feel to be a Person of Interest, Ms Gardner?

  5. Kaylee Miller Says:

Do you agree with this blogger that the Valleywag post was racist?

Something that Feels like Success

July 11th, 2008

One thing that I have done right in my life is my domain.

I was together enough to register lyza.com in the mid-90s.

I was together enough to maintain some semblance of Web presence.

Google developed a strong relationship with my site.

Anyone in the world who needs me or wants to know about me can find me by just typing four letters.

My email address is extremely obvious. And short. My shortest email is x@xxxx.xxx

Yesterday I was also lucky enough to score lyza —at— pdx dot edu. PSU with its billions and billions of students has never seen another Lyza, I guess. It sure beats my last PSU email address (psu03146@odin.cc.pdx.edu). I got that one in 1994.

Update: This post makes me sound self-congratulatory. That wasn’t the tone I was going for. I meant more to express happiness. But I’m far, far too busy to re-write it.

I went the other way since “eikonoklastic” is pretty unique, and well iconoclastic. No one else had it, surprise! I must have been affected by carrying a 10 letter consonant laden Polish surname for a lifetime or something.

LOL, the wonderful thing about having the name Lyza, is you never have to add numbers in your urls or email addresses…LOL as you can see :)
