I have been thinking about it for some time and I’ve decided I’m comfortable with declaring that my favorite electronica/dance/trance song ever (and I really, really mean this) is:
Hybrid - Unfinished Symphony
To wit, I played the Soundtrack Mix (just strings–the Russian Federal Orchestra) as the procession music at my wedding, which is a pretty strong endorsement. I think my favorite mix is Sasha and Digweed’s from the phenomenal album Northern Exposure 2 — East Coast Edition (I know that’s a mouthful); more about that album later because it kind of defined my life.
I dunno, what do you think? I hope I don’t realize I’ve made a mistake here. It’s a bold pronouncement for me.

Morgan Page — Longest Road feat. Lissie (Deadmau5 Remix)
Tranciness: Medium
Progressiveness: Medium-High
Vocal: Female/Pervasive (song-like structure)
Intensity/Danciness: Medium-Low
Cheesiness: Medium-Low
Lyza-ness: Medium-High
If you like your dance songs to be songy, this is a good one for you. Lissie’s vocal is distinctive, less ethereal and flighty than most trance sounds. A slight edge, slightly dark, yearning.
I’m pretty sure the vocals actually sing “giddyup” at some point. Do you hear that, too?
And what’s with Deadmau5? Everywhere these days.

Today:
Shiloh — Bleed (Baroque Records)
Warning: This track is not new. It’s from June, 2006. I’m just saying.
Tranciness: None
Progressiveness: Yes
Intensity/Danciness: Low
Cheesiness: Low
Vocals: Nope
Lyza-ness: Medium
A wah-wah chiller from Shiloh, who usually do good things. Has a nice progressive plinking to spur your day.

Today:
The Magnet Men — Arm’s Length (Original Mix) (Hardcore Beats)
Tranciness: Very Low
Progressiveness: High
Intensity/Danciness: Medium
Vocals: Sort of/Female/Yes
Cheesiness: Pretty Low
Lyza-ness: Medium Low
This is a new icy breaks track with a slightly haunting and downcast female motif. Not bad. Exclusive on Beatport.com.

Today’s pick:
Static Blue/Harris Briggs — Watch The Skies Fall (feat. Airplanes) (Illuminate Records)
(Comments based on Original Mix; several others available)
Factors:
Tranciness: High
Cheesiness: Moderate
Progressive-ness: Low/medium
Anthemicness: Med-High
Vocals: Male
Intensity/Danciness: Med-High
Lyza-ness: Med-High
I like this one. The vocals somehow sound 80s-ish angsty, kind of New Wave almost.

Heard this on XMU this morning as I drove through a downpour to work. “Giddyup” confirmed. The XM DJ (Billy Zero) was really lovin’ this track. I thought it was just okay.
